Birth:

Brother Brad Wilson and his wife Lisa (Taylor’s Creek PB Church) have a new baby boy named Naaman Daniel.  He was born on Jan. 24th.  Naaman joins older brothers Elijah and Caleb.  Brother Brad moved his membership from Tippecanoe PB Church due to distance- we miss them, but are happy for their new arrival!
 

 

 

Something to think about:
    He listened!

     I was sitting, torn by grief.  Someone came and talked to me of God’s dealings, of why it happened, of hope beyond the grave.  He talked constantly; he said things I knew were true. I was unmoved except to wish he’d go away.  He finally did.
     Another came and sat beside me.  He just sat beside me for an hour or more, listened when I said something, answered briefly, prayed and simply left.  I was moved, I was comforted. I hated to see him go.

**Sometimes we only need to “listen” and “quietly pray”.  Sometimes that is enough and worth far more than words.

Mt. Zion to Celebrate Centennial Meeting
June 5th-8th, 2008

Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church was constituted June 13, 1908 with 12 charter members: Elder S. I. Gardner, Phoeba Gardner, Richard Gardner, Katie Gardner, Bertha Gardner, William H. Worrell, Sadie Worrell, W. T. Judy, Ellen Judy, R. B. Rowland, Elder W. S. Craig, Arminta L. Craig.
The organization meeting was held at the Hanley schoolhouse, near Cozad, Nebraska. The Presbytery consisted of Elders C. M Cooper, W. S. Craig, S. I. Gardner and Deacon C. A. Worrell. After the Church Covenant, Articles of Faith and Rules of Decorum were read. Elder C. M. Cooper delivered the charge.
The Lord willing, Mt. Zion will celebrate our 100th anniversary in 2008. Many changes have taken place in our city and in our nation but the church here at Mt. Zion has been blessed to worship the unchangeable God of the scriptures throughout her history and we trust that He will be pleased to bless the church to continue in our community until He returns again.
Therefore, we believe there is no better way to celebrate our Centennial than with worship services. Please feel welcome to come and celebrate with us!

Tippecanoe PB Church was blessed to have 3 visiting ministers this past couple weeks.   Our Pastor, Elder Tommy Sarber was away on business, and we had Brother David Stickel, Brother Jeremy Sarber, and Brother Jerome Gillam fill in on both Wed. nights and on Sunday. The young brothers were all blessed to preach wonderful sermons that the congregation appreciated and enjoyed very much.

This month’s characteristic is: Helpfulness

Definition:  Ready to serve at any time.

Scripture:  “They helped every one his neighbor; and every one said to his brother, Be of good courage.”  Isaiah 41:6

Christ’s Example:   Jesus helped his friends when they were having a hard time catching fish.  He then sat with them and shared the feast of fish.  Read the story and find out just how he helped them catch fish. John 21:3-14

Your turn:    A really great way to show your parents and God that you love him, is to be “helpful”.  Jesus helped many people from the time he was a small child and it pleased God (his father) Not only is it a good thing to do, it makes you feel good inside to know that you are obeying God you’re your parents, and you are following in Jesus’ footsteps. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The Red Umbrella

     As the drought continued for what seemed an eternity, a small community of Midwest farmers was in a quandary as to what to do.  The rain was important not only in order to keep the crops healthy, but to sustain the townspeople's very way of living.  As the problem became more urgent, the local church felt it was time to get involved and planned a prayer meeting in order to ask for rain.
     In what seemed a vague remembrance of an old Native American ritual, the people began to show. The pastor soon arrived and watched as his congregation continued to file in.  He slowly circulated from group to group, and then made his way to the front to begin the meeting. 
     Just as he began to ask for quiet, he noticed an eleven-year-old girl sitting in the front row.  She as beaming with excitement and lying next to her was a big red umbrella. The beauty and innocence of this sight made the pastor smile to himself as he realized the faith of this young girl.  The rest of the people in the room had come to pray for rain…..she had come expecting God to answer.

**editor’s note- Although tithing is an Old Testament principal, we should all remember that it isn’t just “10%” that belongs to the Lord.  Everything we have is the Lord’s and we owe to Him so much more than a mere tenth. Giving is a blessed endeavor, and should always be done with a cheerful heart whether in material goods, service, or financial support.

Horatio Gates Spafford (1828-1888)

**Horatio Spafford was a business man that suffered financial disaster in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.  He and his wife were still grieving over the loss of their son shortly before the fire, and realized they needed to get away on vacation.  They decided to travel to England to hear their friend Dwight L. Moody preach.  He sent his wife and 4 daughters ahead on the SS Ville du Havre and planned to follow later. 
     But on the Atlantic, the ship was struck by an iron sailing vessel and sank in twelve minutes.  226 lives were lost including the Stafford’s 4 daughters. His wife cabled him with the words, “Saved alone.”  Stafford booked a passage on the next vessel.  As they crossed the Atlantic, the captain pointed out the place where he thought the Ville du Havre may have gone down.  That night Stafford penned the words “When sorrows like sea billows roll….it is well, it is well with my soul.”

Noteworthy News
Elder Gus Harter and his family arrived in the US last Wednesday night. They had some difficulties in getting out of the Philippines due to problems with the airplane. After a 24 hour delay, they finally came in the next day, Wednesday. We picked them up at Dallas/Ft Worth Airport and delivered them to one of our member’s weekend cottage at Holly Lake Ranch. They arrived for morning services today (Sunday) and Elder Harter was blessed to preach ably from the first chapter of Acts on the "Many Infallible Proofs". 
A few months ago I had asked for donations to help with the airfares for the Harters to come home. The response was overwhelming from the wonderful family of Primitive Baptist from all across the U.S., and not only did many of you give to this great cause, you gave more than I asked for, consequently we had enough excess funds to purchase the used 15 passenger Chevrolet van shown in the above picture. The picture was made after church on Sunday, February 3, 2008. The van allows the entire family to travel together, and their plans are to use it to travel among all of our churches.
 Elder Harter will be traveling back to the Philippines relatively soon as he continues to labor in the movement there. Several ministers on this list have already helped by going there to support the churches, and he certainly request your prayers for the continued efforts of these ministers, and any others who may be willing to help in this regard.
 The Harters still have not sold their house in the Philippines, and we are soliciting your prayers for the sale of that house, so that they can purchase a home here in Tyler, Texas. God has been so gracious to us here at Tyler, and we ask for your continued support as our church here at Tyler attempts to be of assistance to this good and Godly family.
